LONG EXPOSURE TO THE WINTER SEA
Photographs by Stefan Hartwig
After some great chowder at Mo’s in Newport, we stopped quickly in Lincoln City to check out the ocean at night. It was just shy of pitch black, so it was quite an amazing experience to hear the ocean tearing away at the shoreline, but not be able to see it very well.
It gave me a chance to do some long exposure shots. This shot was a 35 second exposure with the camera perched awkwardly on a rock. The beach was illuminated ever so slightly by the lights of lincoln city, so it worked very well. I’ve never done anything like this before, but I definitely plan to do more in the future. It’s one stop short of amazing.

Wow. This is awesome.

I have never seen anything like it. It’s fantastic!

Wow. Very special. It looks and feels very quiet and peacefull. Just like the calm you’d get on a freezing winter night. I’m for sure gonna try this out. To the beach!

Very cool Peter,
The EXIF data should be in the image, if you want to take a look. I might recommend not shooting on 1600 ISO though.
I was trying to see what I could get at that level and I forgot to switch it back for the longer exposure shot.
Oops.

Holy cow, S. This is one of my favorites of yours. And that’s saying a lot.

Thanks B!

I live about 40 minutes from this beach and have never seen it quite like this. I’m all over this shot, like a fat kid on cake!
